Sligo LGFA was established in 1993 as a result of a Motion put forward by
then Sligo GAA Development officer Tommy Carroll to have Ladies Football
established in the County.
In the Spring of 1993 a Co Board was formed with Marty Duffy as it's First
Chairperson.
A total of 11 Clubs affiliated with a little over 200 members registered.
On the playing Front there were 2 Competitions, one at U-14 and one at
Senior.
On a wet September Sunday Eastern Harps were crowned Senior Champions with
St Nathy's winning the U-14 Championship.
Over the years the County have won A Junior All Ireland Championship in
2006, 2 NFL Division 3 Titles in 1995 & 2015, 5 Connacht Junior
Championships, 4 Connacht intermediate Championships
In 2019 - 27 playing seasons later - 19 Clubs affiliated to the County
Board with 2'300 members Registered. On the playing Front there were 45
Competitions.
The County hosted the National Congress on two occasions in 2000 and again
in 2016. On the administration side the County have provided 2 Presidents
of Connacht Council.
